According to Lacey (1988), Paradigms is defined as "vertical set of associations" while Syntagms is "horizontal or sequential arrangement" (Lacey, 1988). With regards to paradigms and syntagms there is also the inclusion of denotations and connotations. Lacey describes connotations as 'what the things suggest or imply’ (Lacey 1998). Connotation can also extend more than its just literal definition, it could also incorporate a meaning. For example a colour is not just a mixture of other colours or just a solid tone; it could also have representational and symbolical meaning. Denotations on the other hand implies to a more literal definitions such as meaning that are found in a dictionary. Words such as paradigms and syntagms may have different connotations and definitions depending on the context and the way its interpreted. In architecture and other design fields paradigm is a design in which people or society deems as being successful or influential. This could apply to architecture or product designs such as electronic devices which have become successful and iconic due to a design element.
Our group wanted to make the model as attractive and realistic as possible so each of us were delegated to develop different parts of the model. We used glass mirrors for the façade, miniature trees, synthetic grass and other materials to construct the model.
